Martin Luther King Jr. wasn’t just a leader, he was an innovator. His fight for justice, and equality changed the world and showed us what it truly means to take action for what’s right. For HBCUs, his legacy hits super close to home. Our institutions have long been at the forefront of progress, supporting leaders and changemakers who push Dr. King’s vision forward in ways that are even more bold, creative, and impactful.

In 2025, HBCUs are continuing to amplify this legacy. Through community service, cultural celebrations, and events that drive change, these institutions are transforming Dr. King’s dream into a movement, constantly raising the bar to inspire and make a lasting impact on our communities.

Here’s how HBCUs are taking action this holiday:

Unity 5th Quarter Battle of The Bands
On Sunday, January 19th, the energy from marching bands like Jackson State and NCAT will unite together for a showdown celebrating culture and Black excellence. Greenville, South Carolina, is hosting the “Unity” Weekend, with the “Unity 5th Quarter Battle of the Bands” as a staple event showcasing the talent of HBCU bands and keeping the spirit of unity alive.
