Spring Break: A Do’s and Don’ts Survival Guide
With Spring Break happening for students, here’s a quick guide on navigating the most anticipated break of the school year

Miami - March 23, 2019: Young people flock to South Beach to celebrate Spring Break.
Now that the weather is starting to clear up and seasonal depression is slowly fading away, it’s time for the long awaited pause to begin: Spring Break! Whether you’re heading home for the week, or going out of the country with your friend group, it’s important to remain level headed and not go too crazy. To successfully navigate your break, here are a few Do’s and Don’ts to consider so you can return to campus in one piece.
DO: Be Aware of Your Surroundings
If you have the luxury of traveling for spring break, please remember to keep your head on a swivel and be cognizant of your surroundings. Never leave your drinks unattended in public, and trust your intuition if certain places or parties aren’t giving off a good vibe. Have fun, but be cautious. You never know what could happen at any given moment.
DON’T: Venture Out Alone
There have been too many instances where friends go on trips and someone ends up missing or faces an unexpected death because they disbanded from the group. No matter how near or far you’re, always bring a buddy out with you, especially if you are somewhere you’ve never been before. Exploring new places is more fun when you do it with others!
DO: Spend Wisely or Try To Save Your Money
If you’re traveling, hopefully you’ve set money aside for your trip. On vacation, we can be forgetful about our budgets and quickly cash out on excursions and experiences. Staying on top of your expenses during the break can set you up for a successful semester financially. If you’re working, definitely try to save as much as you can! You never know when you may need it.
DON’T: Splurge Too Much
While on break, it’s so easy to spend unnecessary money on food, outings, etc. It’s important to keep track of what you’re spending, especially if you rely on your own income during the school year. Yes, it’s ok to spoil yourself every once in a while. Just don’t go too crazy and regret it later.
DO: Be Careful What You Post
During the break, making new memories is inevitable. Pictures and videos are bound to be taken, but everything that’s captured in Miami, doesn’t need to be shared. Be mindful of what you post on your social media accounts. At the end of the day, you still represent yourself, your family, and your institution.
DON’T: Be Afraid To Try New Things
With a week’s worth of free time on your hands, you should take advantage and try new things. Maybe try that food place you see all over TikTok or take a class with a group of friends. Adventure doesn’t have to always happen on vacation! Use the break to scratch something off of your bucket list and expand your horizons.
DO: Take Some Time To Refocus
Spring Break is the perfect time to tap back into your personal hobbies and interests. Take advantage of not having classes and upcoming assignments, and use the time to remind yourself of your goals. You can even make new ones to motivate yourself and start the remainder of the year off strong.
DON’T: Forget To Catch Up On Your Sleep
We’ve all been there: late nights outside with your friends that carried into the early morning. During the week-long break, late night fun is more than ok, but just remember to fit in some time to catch up on your rest. You don’t want to come back from break even more exhausted than when you started. Maybe set a day aside where you relax and do absolutely nothing. Trust me, your mind and body will thank you.
