In 2025, the University of the District of Columbia will host the first-ever National 4-H Soccer Cup. This event, taking place March 12 to 16, 2025, will bring young athletes from across the country to the nation’s capital to compete, learn, and grow in the world of soccer.
This competition is part of the larger “Ignite” initiative led by the 4-H summit, a space that focuses on helping youth develop impactful life skills through sports.
The National 4-H Soccer Cup will showcase soccer talent from both boys’ and girls’ teams on UDC’s brand new athletic fields. And as a complement to the competition, attendees will also have the chance to check out educational workshops sharing invaluable tools needed to succeed both on and off the field.
For UDC, this event marks a huge moment in its ongoing commitment to supporting youth sports and educational programs. As an HBCU, hosting this inaugural event not only sheds light on UDC’s efforts in building a more inclusive future for youth from underrepresented backgrounds, but also, brings exposure to the campus’ unique athletic efforts and offerings.
“Events like the National 4-H Soccer Cup are more than just an opportunity for athletes to compete,” said Dean Dwane Jones of UDC’s College of Agriculture, Urban Sustainability, and Environmental Sciences. “They serve as a platform to inspire youth to pursue education, leadership, and personal growth. We are excited to host this landmark event and provide a space where young people can come together to demonstrate their potential, both in sports and life.”
The event also offers a special opportunity for UDC students, particularly those studying sports management, education, and youth development. Students will have the chance to check out internship opportunities for hands-on experience and interact with athletes, coaches, and mentors from around the country. Having these interactions will help enrich students’ experiences and strengthen UDC’s connection to the community, showing just how important HBCUs are in providing diverse educational and athletic opportunities for the next generation.
UDC is helping to create a legacy in sports and education. Hosting the National 4-H Soccer Cup is a true example of the university’s dedication to amplifying diverse talent and empowering student athletes from around the US on how to be leaders on and off the field.
